Omicron Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered May 19, 1985.  Over the years, we have focused on significant, substantial, and sustained community change.  Under the leadership of Mrs. Cynthia Ragland, Chapter President, we serve the Woodbridge and Prince William County Community through:

The Black Family Programs– We support the community through honoring the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service as we serve families in transition at the Hilda Barg Homeless Prevention Shelter, we conduct food drives for the ACTS food shelter, coat drive, Easter and Thanksgiving Food baskets for families in need.  In November each year, we work with a family to encourage family voluntarism as part of our National Volunteer Day Program.

Education Programs – We support the community by giving at risk, primary grade students the support and guidance needed to enable them to read at or above their current grade level.  Through our local scholarship program along and our Corporate Presidential Freedom Scholarship Program, we assist African American high school graduates of the Prince William County, Manassas, or Manassas Park High School and some individuals who reside outside of the Prince William County Virginia.  Annually we award four $2,000 scholarships.  In collaboration with the Presidential Freedom Scholarship Program, we recognize students for their leadership and commitment to community service, matching a $500 contribution and totaling $1,000 to qualifying recipients.

Health– We support the community through providing a 3-hour workshop and presentation promoting a healthy lifestyle for Senior Citizens and others at the Birmingham Green Seniors Home.  We supported the wearing red for “Go Red for Women” day and attending the “Go Red Breakfast.”

Economics– We support the community through offering to assist, at no cost to them, college students, low income tax filers, and senior citizens to file electronically their income tax returns.

HER-OWe collaborate with ten middle schools through our Helping Education through Relationships and Opportunities (HER-O) program, a program designed to mentor by example, providing positive, dynamic women role models for over 170 middle school young women.
